Application Notes - 2400
The OneAccess 2400 series is a solution for service providors planning broadband services going beyond simple massmarket Internet access. It is a multiport DSL router that integrates classical DSLAM technology with advanced IP routing and AAA (Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting) functionality.
The OneAccess solution

Compact solution for connecting business customers
Designed in a compact 1-unit housing connecting up to 24 users over ADSL/ADSL2/ ADSL2+ or SHDSL , it offers an attractive price per port and it is ideal for the delivery of nation-wide services, including in areas with lower business customer densities.
Using existing backbone connectivity
The support of fl exible physical interfacing to the backbone, based on multiple E1, E3, STM1 or Ethernet will allow the connection to the existing backbone infrastructure, without the need for additional investments.
Flexible migration of the backhaul
support of migration of the backbone
It is designed for the delivery of broadband services over DSL (ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ or SHDSL) using an ATM, Frame-Relay or IP backhaul infrastructure, with the possibility to deliver a uniform service offering in mixed mode networks and allowing a smooth migration from one backhaul technology to another. This is possible since the 2400 series integrates the functions of an IP router with support for PPP, Frame-Relay and ATM encapsulations, a VLAN switch, and an ATM switch.
Delivery of new services
  • Quality of Service guarantees, depending on the type of traffi c (e.g. Voice over IP)
  • Support for customer VLAN interconnects
  • Support for VoIp services through QoS
  • Support for both ADSL and SHDSL CPE devices
  • Video multicast
Simple traffic engineering
Traffic aggregation into a operator-defined number of ATM PVCs, Framerelay DLCIs or L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) allows to keep control of the traffi c engineering in the backbone.
Integrated Authentication, Authorisation, Accounting
Integrated Authentication, Authorisation, Accounting The 2400 series allows the termination of the PPPoE or PPPoA sessions of the end-user, by implementing the AAA (Authentication, Authorisation, Accounting) functionality with a Radius server. This eliminates the need of a dedicated BRAS (Broadband Access Server) in the network. The PPP sessions are terminated in the OneAccess 2400 multi-port router, and any type of backhaul network (Ethernet, SDH/PDH, Framerelay, ATM) can be used to relay the IP user data towards the backbone.
Based on the IP ranges attributed to the end-user by the Radius server, a further service selection can be done in the 2400 router. By using policy based routing, a service provider can implement a selection between e.g. a public internet service and a VPN service, based on the selected PPP user ID and password.
Superior performance characteristics
With a full IP routing core of 150.000 pps and an ATM switching core of 200.000 cps, the 2400 family offers full STM1 (155 Mbps) routing and switching.
Maximum return
The unit allows to rollout new profi table broadband services like voice over IP, VPN services, VLAN services or Video multicast.
These services can be supported on asymmetrical (ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+) or symmetrical (SHDSL) access infrastructures.
Because of its small physical size (1 unit connecting up to 24 users) and competitive price per port it can easily be rolled out nation-wide.
Minimum investment
The equipment is designed to work in any existing backbone infrastructure (ATM, Framerelay or IP), without the need for any additional investments.
This is possible because the OneAccess 2400 solution integrates all required technology (including IP routing, ATM switching, service selection) into a single and compact unit.
